DEMONSTRATION LESSON AT LOCAL UNIVERSITY

Last week we had a demonstration lesson at National Academy of Public Adminstration. We went to the school to talk to around 200 students about ‘Why should you study English?” as well as to give a lesson on conversation, communication and pronunciation. We were greeted by Mr Truong the head of the student union who had helped arrange the day. After sitting and listening to some speeches and enjoying the music of a singer and guitarist it was our turn to start. The director of studies, Ewan Campbell, did his first presentation on “Why should you study English?”. He talked about its use as very important for some professions such as working in international business, environmental management, civil service, medicine and the sciences. How it is now used as the international language of the world, how all conferences and government organizations use it and how it can also be a lot of fun as 80% of all electronic information is stored in English. He also included some information on common exams and some of the best ways of improving your English. We then conducted the demonstration lesson showing the students how our lessons use communication and pronunciation. At the end we handed out some scholarships for some of the students and encouraged everyone to come to a further demo lesson at one of our Shane English Centers.

It was a very good day and it was nice to have the chance to speak with so many bright young people. We will be looking for more demonstration lessons in the future, to try and promote our new FCE courses.

COMMUNICATION ENGLISH

• Three-level program from pre-intermediate level to high intermediate using Let’s Talk 1, 2 & 3 plus New Headway Video
• Fully trained, supported competent native speaking teachers all possessing a sincere desire to help their students to achieve their goals
• The aim is to develop students speaking (including some pronunciation work) and listening skills based on situations that they are likely to need them within a social context.

• 1 course = 24 lessons. 3 lessons per course will be a DVD lesson.
• Other features of these courses are mid-term and final tests as well as student counseling.

• Develop student’s awareness and ability to use stress and intonation for accurate and functional use.
• All aspects of English pronunciation will be covered from phonemes (individual sounds) to connected speech including intonation and sentence stress.
• A strong understanding of English pronunciation will not only help you develop your ability to be understood in English, but will improve your listening skills.
